The Umbra MARD V1 is a modular anti-reflection device (ARD) for reducing optical signatures on riflescopes and optics . The system was developed for users who require reliable reduction of light reflections, robust construction, and an adaptable, practical solution under demanding operating conditions.

The purpose of the Umbra MARD is to effectively reduce light reflections at the objective lens and to restrict the exit angle of the optics so that visibility from side or elevated viewing angles is minimized. Additionally, it reduces the optical signature of the riflescope, thereby making it more difficult to identify the shooter.

Background & Development

Reducing optical signatures on rifle scopes has been an integral part of sniper practice for decades. Long before industrial solutions existed, makeshift measures were employed – often homemade tubes from plastic bottles, duct tape, or improvised baffles – to suppress reflections and break up the glare and shape of the lens or rifle scope.

The Umbra MARD adopts this proven principle and transforms it into a structured, modular, and reproducible system. Instead of improvised, individual solutions, the Umbra MARD offers a robust, secure, and application-oriented implementation with defined materials, attachment points, and repeatability.

What makes Umbra MARD special?

Modular system – adapted to the order and location:
The Umbra MARD consists of a base unit , a magnetically attached honeycomb filter (killflash/ARD) , and an optional tube for enhanced signature reduction. The components can be combined or used individually, depending on the application requirements.

Secure fit with adjustable pull-off resistance:
The main cylinder is attached to the riflescope or an existing sunshade. It can also be mechanically secured using two screws on the top. This allows the trigger pull resistance to be individually adjusted and reliably prevents unintentional release – even during movement, recoil, or heavy use.

Magnetic locking mechanism with additional safety feature:
The honeycomb filter and tube are guided magnetically and lock precisely into place. An additional mechanical rotary lock provides a second level of security and increases operational reliability under dynamic conditions.

Tube for extended light and signature control:
The optional tube significantly reduces the lens's exit angle and helps minimize optical signatures . It is attached, magnetically secured, and mechanically fastened.

High-quality material – PA6-CF:
The tube is manufactured using 3D printing from carbon fiber reinforced PA6 nylon . This material offers high impact resistance, dimensional stability, and temperature resistance at a low weight and is designed for use in harsh conditions.
